There is a painter I consider my direct ancestor in the craft — Wassily Kandinsky. More than a hundred years ago he wrote something that today’s coaches and neural networks repeat without knowing the author: colour is not decoration, it is a vibration that acts on the soul directly.
I say the same in my own words: colour is a frequency. And if that is so, then an artist working with colour is not working with the beautiful — he is working with a person’s state. That is what makes Kandinsky kin to me. And where his model ends for me, mine begins — not better, simply mine.
What Kandinsky saw
Kandinsky noticed a simple, uncomfortable thing: colour acts on us before we manage to think. Blue draws us inward and down, toward calm. Yellow strikes outward, unsettles, rings. Red burns without moving. He called it «inner necessity» — when colour and form sound not because someone decided so, but because otherwise they would be lying.
He even heard colour as sound — what we now call synaesthesia and are finally studying seriously. For him the canvas was not a picture but an instrument sounding a note, and the person standing before it heard that note with the body.
Here I am with him completely. When I choose a colour for a painting, I do not ask «is it beautiful». I ask: what frequency will this switch on in the one who looks.
Where Kandinsky’s model is not complete for me
Having heard that colour is self-sufficient, Kandinsky took a radical step: he let go of the object entirely. He went into pure abstraction, where there is neither person nor thing — only colour and form sounding by themselves. He felt the object drags the viewer back into the everyday, and he removed it.
That is an honest model, and for him it was the right one. For me it is not — not because he was wrong, but because my map is different. Colour without an anchor is, for me, a note without a song: beautiful, but with nothing to hold on to.
So in my works the frequency of colour is always tied to an image — to the portal from which the soul is born, to a figure on an ancient scroll, to sacred geometry. Colour sets the state; the symbol says what the state is about. Kandinsky stripped meaning from colour to free its force. I keep the force but give it back an address. Both paths work. Mine is this one.
What this means for you
Honestly, with no promises: the colour on my canvas heals nothing and replaces neither a doctor nor your own work. I do not sell «colour therapy».
But what Kandinsky noticed is a truth you have tested on yourself hundreds of times without naming it. A room of one colour gathers you; another irritates. The sky before a storm presses on you before any thought. Colour is a frequency, and you feel it with the body. The only question is whether the frequencies around you are random — or chosen.
And still
Kandinsky spent his life freeing colour — undressing it of meaning until only pure vibration remained. That was the courage of his century.
I propose the opposite movement, and today it is, I think, the more needed one: not to free colour, but to give it back an address. Let the frequency know whom and what it addresses. But choosing it is still up to you. Look at the wall in front of you: what frequencies hang there — and who chose them, you or chance?
